Dragon’s Dogma Sphinx Riddles Solutions

The Sphinx riddles are an optional Dragon’s Dogma quest that is well worth the time spent. The A Game of Wits is divided into two parts, first, find the Sphinx in Mountain Shrine and solve 5 riddles, then she flys to another location where she will present you with 5 other riddles, you need to kill her at the end to get the full rewards.

Be aware that if you fail some of the first 5 riddles you don’t get the respective reward, but if that happens in the second part the quest is over and you lose the opportunity, so make sure you save the game between riddles.

How to solve the Sphinx Riddles in Dragon’s Dogma 2

Sphinx Location

The quest A Game of Wits can be started at any time, for that find and talk with Sphinx that can be found in the Mountain Shrine, north of Checkpoint Rest Town.

Riddle of eyes

“Our eyes are our allies, yet oft do they betray, for eyes tell lies, so I advise, and thence do lead astray. Yet how will your eyes advise you? Venture through yonder door, and retrieve that which is of greatest value.”

This one is very straightforward, just enter the door shown and find a chest above the entrance, bring that to the Sphinx, you can also continue on your way to the cave to get extra loot.

Reward: 1x Wakestone

Riddle of Madness

“Love is as twin to madness, they say. They are bound fast, as night is to day. So bring forth your most beloved to me, that I might gauge the depth of your insanity.”

The second riddle is also simple, you need to present the Sphinx with your main pawn or the NPC you have the highest affinity level with.

Reward: 1x Portcrystal

Riddle os Wisdom

“The parent knows the child, yet the reverse is far from true. The child knows not the parent: such is the parent’s due. I am a lost child; for kinship do I yearn. So bring to me my “Parent,” that I might better learn.”

The Riddle of Wisdom requires you to recruit and bring to Sphinx a Pawn with the name “SphinxParent”, “SphinxFather”, or “SphinxMother”. For that head up to the village of Harve, activate the Riftstone of Fellowship, and enter the rift to look for Pawns.

Reward: 1200 Rift Crystals

Riddle of Conviction

“Life is an enigma – a lender of mortal debt. Yet lighter pack makes fleeter foot and challenge nimbly met. So grant me what you most prize, and thence elude your ponderous demise.”

The next Dragon’s Dogma riddle is also straightforward, just give any item from your inventory to the Sphinx. However, the reward will be the 2 units from the item offered so take advantage of that and offer something rare.

Reward: A duplicate of the item that you just gave.

Riddle of Rumination

“It’s ever the first we keep fond in our breat, and ever the first that eclipses the rest. You know of the Seeker’s Tokens, I trust? Those keepsakes of a fondly remembered journey? Yet where was it that you found your first? Retrace your steps, if you can – you might make a new discovery.”

The Riddle of Rumination can be a tricky one if you don’t remember where you find the first Seeker’s Token. You need to return to that location and retrieve the Finder’s Token, you only have 7 in-game days to do that.

Reward: 3x Ferrystone

Second Sphinx Location

Once the fifth riddle is completed the Sphinx will fly away to the second location, if you are fast enough grab onto her and enjoy the ride. Be aware that by doing that you need to return later to open the fifth chest. If you miss the opportunity make your way to the Frontier Shrine.

The Riddle of Reunion is completed just by finding the second location, the remaining 4 Sphinx Riddles will be given in a random order, and be careful, if you fail one the entire quest is over, so make sure to save the game before each one.

Riddle of Reunion

This one is completed just by finding the second Sphinx location and talking to her.

Reward: 100,000 gold

Riddle of Differentiation

“I seek this man. If men are so distinct, I’m sure you’ll meet him in a trice.”

In this Dragon’s Dogma riddle, an image of an NPC will be shown, is better if you take a screenshot. However that NPC has a twin, they can be found in different locations. The one named Dante is found in the market area and near the entrance of Checkpoint Rest Town. The Vergil is located on the Battahl side of the Checkpoint Rest Town. Compare the two with the screenshot and bring the correct one to the Sphinx to complete the quest.

Reward: Whimsical Daydream – Trickster class weapon

Riddle of Contest

“Though ours is a battle of wits, tests of mettle are more to your strength. Is that not so? Come, try your arm – though he shall be your opponent, not I. However, I am not one to be amused by a simple duel. Bear this ring into battle, that I might gauge your true strength.”

Time to fight, a soldier will be spawned to fight with you, the Ring of Derision is automatically equipped what make your attacks cause no damage. The solution is to stun the opponent, grab him, and then throw him from the cliff.

Reward: Ring of Ambition – Increases XP gains from defeating enemies.

Riddle of Futility

“Here I have an amphora destine for Ser Maurits in Bakbattahl. Deliver it to him, but beware; it’s rather fragile.”

This Sphinx Riddle can be very hard, but it is an easy way. The objective is to deliver the vase to Maurits in Bakbattahl without breaking it. The path is full of enemies and at the minimum hit, the vase will break and quest over. Instead, like you have done in the other riddles, you can grab the NPC itself and teleport back to Frontier Shrine, leave the Maurits near the vase and the quest is completed.

Reward: Eternal Bond – Give this ring to an NPC to greatly boost your relationship/affinity with them.

Riddle of Recollection

“My memory fails me, you see. Remind me, and make it plain. Let yonder statues be your means. For every question aptly answered, bring one here before me.”

Another simple riddle, count the total of riddles you have successfully solved and place the number of statues in front of her.

Reward: Unmaking Arrow – Arrow that kills anything in one hit. Once fired, the game will automatically save, so choose your moment with due care.

Once you complete all ten Sphinx riddles, you have a short talk with her before she prepares to fly out of the place to never be seen again. You can simply let her go and complete the quest but if you want to open the big chest you need to kill the Sphinx. For that make sure you have the Archer vocation equipped and as soon as the dialog ends start shooting her to begin the fight. Once her HP gets too low she will try to escape, to avoid that you need to use the Unmaking Arrow.

Reward: Eternal Wakestone – Allows you to revive multiple NPCs at the same time
